An RRL Photo Collection

One of the annoying things about RRL is how difficult it is to find pictures of the line – mostly in part due to strict media rules placed on North American retailers. Japanese retailers do not seem to be under the same restrictions however, and are often a great way to track down information. One such store is Hunky Dory, which also maintains a great RRL set on flickr.

NYCO Poplins

While Seattle skipped spring this year, summer is showing up and I’ve been able to start wearing more of my lightweight jackets from Engineered Garments made from NYCO poplin (abbreviation for nylon and cotton). For hot weather, it is a great fabric that breathes easily, is quick to dry when wet, and is very durable against general wear and tear – so much that even certain NYCO fabrics are used in military uniforms.

Back to Engineered Garments, they made several pieces with it this season – the CPO shirts, Explorer Jackets, and Type 1 pants. Past season items include the mountain parka and pathfinder jackets. If you’re looking for summer outerwear, consider giving one a shot.

Mr. Porter Sale

If you are a founding member of Mr. Porter, you have access to a pretty incredible sale right now – 50% off all items that are not marked as wardrobe staple or new season. This leaves some great stuff from Drakes, John Lobb, Swaine Adeney Brigg, and more.

Big update 5/30: After hearing rumors for the past week, Racked has confirmed that Mr. Porter will start the sale for everyone tomorrow morning (May 31st).

Optimo’s New Website

I was not paying attention but sometime over the past few months Optimo Hats launched a new website with many great pictures of its hats along with videos showcasing the work involved in making them.

Drakes Raw Silk Ties Revisited

While still soft, these are about as slubby as you can get. The ties also seem a bit heavier than others that I have from Drakes, and despite being on the narrow side you can easily get a great knot out of these without having to resort to something like a double four-in-hand.

A Shoe Collection

I just stumbled across this interesting collection of shoes on flickr – not all of the 200 pairs are my style, but there is a good variety of just about everything that is fun to look through. The owner of the collection also seems to have a blog as well.

Sam Hober Pocketsquares

Great product, great service. Sam Hober is a small business based out of Thailand and they specialize in making custom handmade ties, scarves, and pocketsquares out of some of the best silks and fabrics available – and for summer, there is a selection of Carlo Riva cotton fabrics to choose from.

The edges of the pocketsquares are hand-rolled and tightly stitched (both of which helps keep the shape of the square while folded in the breast pocket).

Shown above, squares made with the navy blue/white voile cotton and white linen/cotton. Easily the nicest I own.
