Best Socks of the Season

It’s finally starting to feel like fall in Seattle, and I’ve begun to start rotating in my cold weather clothing. Among my favorite accessories of the season are my vintage inspired J.Crew camp socks, which are made in the USA with heavy cotton and some poly materials for added strength.

I’ve always purchased a few pairs every year since they first introduced them, thinking that it would be good to have backups just in case holes start to develop in my worn pairs, but as of yet none have done so. All they need to do now is to make versions of these in wool.

The Underappreciated Accessory

Filson’s bridle leather belts are among the best on the market, and at just under $50 each they are some of the most affordable. You can get them in any color you want, so long as it is brown with brass hardware.

Stars And Stripes D-Ring Belt

With Oi Polloi’s recent sale, the USA flag patterned belt from Engineered Garments that I’ve been eyeing all season came down to a price that I was willing to pay for and it arrived just yesterday afternoon, only six days after placing the order. It’s a really fun piece and the webbing and leather tips seem like they’re high quality.

Made in the USA. I wonder who the manufacturer is?

Note that Oi Polloi’s measurements for the belt are off on their website (the large I have is actually 47″ as opposed to the 43.5″ that it is listed), and I probably could have gone with a medium instead. Tucking the end in will do just fine however.

They still have a full size run of these available – if you order one right now, it might just get to you in time for the 4th of July.

Ralph Lauren Canoe Mocs

New made in Maine moccasins from Ralph Lauren. The leather is a bit oily and they’re a more snug across the top vamp compared to the Quoddy made versions, but are otherwise the same.

Julian Boots

From JulianBoots.net. I learned about this custom boot maker while browsing Barney’s new arrivals section. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any way to contact them – if someone knows these guys, please tell them to fix their email address or put up a phone number.

New Work Gloves

In preparing for Christmas tree hunting this next weekend, I ordered a pair of new work gloves to replace the ones I lost somewhere along the banks of the Skykomish river and they arrived last night. Instead of going with Filson again, I decided to try out ones made by locally by the Geier Glove Company in Centralia Washington.
