Theodore Roosevelt in the Library of Congress Collections

Roosevelt during his time with the Rough Riders.

Frontiersman gear.

The Colonel traveled far and wide, including a long expedition to Africa after his presidency ended to go on big game hunts.

In an assassination attempt, he took a bullet in the chest before giving a public speech – he went on to give the speech with the bullet still lodged in him.

Always well read. During his safari trip, he even brought a large collection of books with him in a trunk that had to be carried by a porter.

Portraits.
